My oldest sister got her long awaited rest, thanks to her wedding which is going to be held this
Saturday,
06 December 2008 @
Rendezvous Hotel. In order to make this day a perfect one, my sister started her preparation 6 mths ago. Let me see...what actually goes on behind the untold/unrevealed scenes?
The House1)
A Roof--- Settling HDB loan problems, Getting agent to look out for suitable flats, viewing & negotiating prices.
2)
Renovation--- Choosing designer & contractor, brainstorm ideas, designs & requirements,
choosing wall colours, sourcing for furniture & appliances...
3)
Monitoring--- Random checks on renovation progress & touch-up for areas which are lacking in expectation. Last minute changes if necessary...
4)
Decorating--- Mopping and cleaning, getting furniture into respective places (Finally a home!)
The Wedding Dress1)
Find a studio--- Attending wedding exhibitions, finding the best studio & negotiating prices
2)
Find the dresses--- Go for fitting & selecting dresses for day, night, outdoor, tea ceremony etc, dresses adjustment.
3)
Flower--- Choose the flower bouquet.
4)
Where's the shoe?--- Finding & buying shoes that matches the dresses & occasion.
5)
Photo me?--- Hairstyling & makeup, studio & outdoor shoots.
The Venue1)
Find the place--- Another round of attending exhibitions, choosing the right location & date for the wedding. Negotiating prices & discussing no. of tables, decorations etc
2)
Venue check--- Meeting the event manager, viewing the halls, hotel room...
3)
Food tasting--- Food test for the menu on the BIG day.
Basically, these are the major concerns & they take up precious time. Not to mention, there are also
visits between both side parents, traditional ritual & processes along the way,
sending cards &
confirming guests list,
seating arrangement planning...
Most importantly, during this joyous season for the couple, that become my partial nightmare! I have to play the role of an
adviser,
sister (actual & wedding day),
coolie (carrying stuffs) &
painter (our house).
Eww...wedding is such a hassle!!! I told my sister in a frustrating voice.
IF i
EVER marry, i will
definitely skip most of these. Probably a photo shoot & wedding lunch among close relatives & friends & case close! My sisters immediate responses are that my father will want it to be more elaborate. Hee looks like i have to get
wed overseas than give everyone a shock upon returning then :P
